A specialist in online learning, Since it was founded in 1998 as Germany’s first university with distance learning, the IU has grown to its mission to make higher education accessible to everyone. They have worked their way up to over 70,000 students, making them Germany’s largest private university. Flexible online and campus degrees: IU prides itself on helping people from different backgrounds and situations get the education they want. This also includes understanding that you may have previous work or family commitments that you need for your studies.
That is why they offer different time models for their online courses; Full-time and two part-time models so you can choose the model that best suits your needs. They recently redesigned their on-campus study model to provide more flexibility. You now attend live lectures two to three days a week on the campus of the IU in Berlin or Bad Honnef, where you can work closely in small groups in close contact with the staff and answer all your questions.
The rest of the lectures are recorded and you can check them out anytime. This way you can work part-time, socialize and discover what Germany has to offer. You can also visit career fairs, alumni talks and build your professional network for a successful career in Europe.
More accessible English-language courses
As part of its mission to make education more accessible, the IU has now launched its own initiative to help prospective students prove their English proficiency without having to take tests and traditional courses such as TOEFL, IELTS or the Cambridge Certificate. The Speexx program is offered to you when you register for online courses at IU.
You will then have access to this English course which will bring you to the required level of B2.2. You can complete this alongside your studies; the courses usually take around three months to advance to the next level. The IU website provides full information on English language requirements and evidence accepted.
IELTS exemptions for countries
In addition, IU has now made it possible to dispense with the requirements of the English language for Citizens of countries where English is the official language of education, giving even more people the chance to get the education they deserve. The list of countries is available below:
